Idag åkte vi äntligen till Apartheid museet. Museet var uppdelat i olika byggnader. En hel byggnad hade bara bilden och information om Nelson Mandela medan de andra var mycket om protesterna och orättvisorna under apartheid. Vi gick in i ett rum där det hängde över 100 stycken hängrep. Varje sådant rep representerade en avrättad människa under apartheid. I rummet bredvid hängrepen fanns det också 3 isoleringscellar som används under apartheid.

Efter besöket på apartheid museet åkte vi tillsammans med Alans fru Patience till slumkvarteret Alexandra där hon arbetade som lärare på en skola. Det var väldigt trångt och fullt med människor där. I skolan hade de blockerat vattenkranarna eftersom barnen lämnade dom på hela tiden. Många av salarna var förstörda och smutsiga. Skolböckerna och bänkarna hade blivit stulna. Datasalen hade de stängt ner eftersom datorerna också blev stulna. Vi hälsade på hos en familj som bodde nära skolan. Patience var vän med mamman där. Efter besöket gick vi tillbaka till skolan och köpte lite att dricka i ett café utanför skolan.

Today we finally went to the Apartheid Museum. It was split up into several buildings. A whole building had been dedicated to Nelson Mandela. We found a room that had over a hundred ropes hanging in the ceiling. Every one of those ropes represents a politically executed person under Apartheid. They also had 3 isolation cells in the next room.

After the the museum visit, we went with Patience to one of Johannesburgs slums, called Alexandra. We went into the school where Paitence works. The taps had been blocked off, the books had been stolen and the computer room had closed down because the computers also became a highlight for thieves. We also visited a family that lived close to the school. They were six people living in one room and a kitchen. Still, this was home to them and they were very kind to us.
